BIOGRAPHY

“…His creamy voice, which flows perfectly naturally, sounded seductive from his first appearance and his aria “Sol da te mio dolce amore” was one of the highlights of the performance…”

In occasion of his debut at the Martina Franca Festival in July 2017, both italian and international critics acclaimed Countertenor Luigi Schifano for his Ruggero in Vivaldi’s “Orlando Furioso” under the button of M° Diego Fasolis.

Endowed with a dark and mellow timbre and an intense volume, he successfully performed in Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” and “Telemaco” (Macedonian Opera, Skopje), Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” (Stadttheater, Klagenfurt), “Amadigi di Gaula” (Barga Festival), as well as Ottone in Monteverdi’s “Incoronazione di Poppea” (National Opera, Riga). Same for the modern Operas, as the main character Federico Garcia Lorca in “Ainadamar” by O. Golijov (Theatro Municipal, San Paolo).

Schifano’s Oratorio repertoire include Michelangelo Falvetti’s “Diluvio Universale” (Camera Musicale Romana, Rome), Bach’s “B-minor Mass” and “Johannes Passion” (Schola Cantorum Aramus, Rome), Traetta’s “Stabat Mater” (Oji Hall, Tokyo), Orff’s “Carmina Burana” (Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome and Macedonian Opera, Skopje). In 2014 he performed the World Premiere of “Seven Songs of Light and Dust” by the italian contemporary composer Angelo Inglese, showing his both vocal and musical versatility.

Luigi Schifano is a winner of a Special Prize at the International Vocal Competition Riccardo Zandonai in Riva del Garda 2010, a Special Prize at Ottavio Ziino Competition of Rome, in November 2011 as well as a Winner of the Sacred Music section at the Santa Chiara Competition in Naples in 2012.

Next engagements include Luc in “Matterhorn” (Theater St. Gallen), Isacco in “Il sacrifizio di Abramo” (Concertgebouw, Amsterdam), Araspe in “Didone Abbandonata” (Theater Basel), Tolomeo in “Giulio Cesare” (Theater St. Gallen)
